Numerical Investigation on the Thermal Protection Characteristics of a New Active Jet Design Parameter for Hypersonic Flight Vehicle

This study investigated the thermal protection performance of an active jet system (PRsAJ-TPS) based on a new design parameter PRs for hypersonic flight vehicles (HFVs). The is defined as relationship between flow total pressure and free behind outer bow shock. A 20° tilted nozzle employed together with to form PRsAJ-TPS. Theoretical numerical analysis performed prove advantages using PRs. conventional in-house CFD solver k ‐ ω SST turbulence model utilized perform calculation. influence different (working in short penetration mode) angles attack PRsAJ-TPS also studied. simulation results confirmed that constant PRs, Mach disk location stays same normalized heat flux reduction similar at conditions. Nearly linear relationships exist indicators. exhibits good when angle (AoA) varies 0° 40°, best achieved id="M2"> AoA = 0 ° . provides valuable information engineering application jet-based TPS future HFVs.
